"You're sure you're okay, Seralde?" Narilless asked again. "For a race that's supposed to be gone, that ogre sure did hurt you." She added. Earlier that day, the pair had been set upon by an ogre who managed to snag Seralde fairly quickly. She came away with bruised ribs and lots of questions about how there was an ogre alive to attack them.

"I'm certain! As for why there was an ogre? I don't have the answer to that. When I do, it'll be second only to when I realized who was behind the Treskian invasion!" The elder elf started to muse again, her gold eyes looking off into space. Narilless had to just roll her eyes. "If it hadn't been for me, the fight would have been much more difficult. Nobody would've known about the spies! I told them that..."

Narilless started at a sound and cut off the explorer. "Seralde, did you hear that?" She asked as she rose to her feet. Both elves' ears perked up as they started looking around. The noise of heavy breath came to them, followed a moment later by the hiss of two snakes. The elves barely had time to flinch when either end of the amphisbaena snapped forward to strike. Seralde crammed her walking stick into the mouth of the larger, main head and held on tightly. Narilless fell back, getting a few extra inches as she pulled energy from her small magic orb and spewed a hail of sharp ice at the monster's other head. The coma of the fizzing bolt struck and dazed the serpent head.

Seralde shouted out loud. "Spirits take this thing!! Narilless! Can you get to my bombs?" She asked. With only a few seconds before the amphisbaena's tail-head snapped out of it, Narilless went for the pack, digging through it as quickly as possible. After tossing a couple of items out, she was able to free the small pack of dwarf-made sticks of explosives.

"Got it!" Narilless said as she pulled the last three sticks out. She put the wicks against her orb and let it light them just as the serpentine head that she'd dazed snapped forward to strike again. Narilless threw one of the bombs inside its mouth, then tossed the last two into the larger main head. Seralde wrenched her staff free as the huge snake swallowed the bombs, then both elves rolled away for cover.

The amphisbaena hissed from both heads, then let out a shriek as it exploded, spewing serpentine gore all over Narilless and Seralde. The older of the two looked up first. Seralde pushed a piece of meat off of the top of her head, then she blinked, looking around. Narilless just lay there, her breath heaving as the adrenaline ran things. She couldn't help but think about how they were both nearly eaten alive. She couldn't help but think about how terrified that must have made Seralde who said that she was afraid of being eaten more than anything else. Most of all she couldn't help but think about how difficult it was to act in the face of certain death. Seralde, on the other hand commented on the entire event with her normal understated aloofness.

"Well that was easy."
