Elves on Adventure

Description

With the sun well on its way towards the horizon there were few things the knight Sarendra wanted more than to reach town and find a place to rest. Three days of searching for the renegade Sir Bredamaine’s camp had proven tiring and fruitless, and thus far she had little reason to believe the next day would be any different. Even the young witch she’d brought along hadn’t been able to divine their enemy’s hiding place. To make matters worse, the redheaded elf, Tellesia was also some degree of a know-it-all.

“This is where we turn,” she insisted again, “You want to rest up for tomorrow’s search, so you also want to follow the east road.”

“No, I’m fairly certain I don’t,” Sarendra replied, keeping her voice even despite her budding irritation, “The town of Rinz is only a few hours south of here, and that’s where I plan to find a bed.”

“Where? A stuffy fort? A snooty inn? If you listen to me we can be in Bellant long before dark and find a place that’s a lot more comfortable,” Tellesia told her, pressing her point.

“Bellant is a hive of thieves and scoundrels. We’d be in more danger there than if we actually stumbled right into Bredamaine’s army blindfolded.”

“You found me in a hive just like that, and I’ve been plenty useful,” Tellesia argued, “Why do you think this place wouldn’t have someone just like me. Besides, who knows the kingdom’s hiding spots better than thieves and scoundrels?”

Regrettably Sarendra saw the logic in her companion’s question, a sign, she was sure, that she was losing her grasp on reason. She looked at the sword she carried and wondered if it was going to see use that much sooner if she followed Tellesia’s advice. Of course, if trouble came their way she could have the other elf simply bewitch their foes. That was chief among the reasons she sought her out in the first place; magic is always useful. It would also be a perfect excuse to enact a little discipline on someone with undeniable, knavish charm. Every “I told you so” would just add to the delicious fun she’d have at the witch’s expense.

“Alright,” the silver-haired knight conceded, “To Bellant. After days of searching for a fight it might be a pleasant break in the monotony if one came to us. One way or another we’ll find some adventure.”

Tellesia's a clever little minx, ain't she?! I also that you got a thing for redheads.
